About
“We dance from the moment our feet touch the earth.” — Sharon Chaiklin, dance therapy pioneer
No matter why you’re here
My hope is for you to develop a more loving and compassionate relationship with your body through movement. Why? Because movement is the foundation of all communication. Beyond the overused clichés about body language, scientists are discovering that dance may be why we can speak—that our ability to move our bodies rhythmically is the basis for our ability for speech and spoken communication. Your body holds wisdom that words alone can’t access, and together we’ll learn to listen to what it’s trying to tell you.
“But I’m not a dancer.”
Many people feel nervous about moving their body in front of others. Most haven’t had formal dance training, so they’re understandably apprehensive about having their movements analyzed or judged. Here’s the truth: dance therapy isn’t about what your movement looks like. How it looks is only important inasmuch as it reveals patterns that help you understand how you relate to the world and yourself. What’s particularly important is how it FEELS, what it REVEALS, and HOW IT HELPS YOU integrate your mind, body, and spirit. It turns out that everyone is a dancer—you’ve been moving and communicating through your body since the moment you were born.
What to Expect in a Session
In a typical session, we begin by exploring what you’d most like to focus on—perhaps continuing a theme from the previous session or addressing something that happened during the week. The approach is always the same: learn, experiment, and integrate. Each session involves exploring a topic or theme, experimenting with different coping skills, and working to integrate what you’ve learned into your larger toolkit. Movement can happen at any point during this process, or not at all. While the body is always central to our work, that doesn’t always mean we’ll be up and moving. Sometimes traditional talk therapy or seated somatic interventions make the most sense. Other times, moving without words is best. Our direction will always be what’s best for you and your needs.
Why Work With Me?
I’m on a mission to help high-achieving, people-pleasing, anxious women finally overcome the chronic stress that’s burning them out. I’m here to help you manage your anxiety in the moment through body-centered, self-compassionate tools. As a woman who struggled for decades with anxiety stemming from undiagnosed ADHD, I know firsthand what it feels like to wonder, “Is there something wrong with me?”
Here’s what I want you to know: there’s nothing wrong with you. And no, you won’t always feel this way.
As a licensed counselor, dance/movement therapist, and yogi, I am passionate about helping you understand the power of expressing yourself through your body. After working in the mental health field for nearly 15 years, the biggest lesson I’ve learned is that each person is their own expert. The only thing holding you back is the knowledge and the confidence to push through failure. I’m here to help with that—with respect, curiosity, and collaboration. My aim is to create a space where you can develop a deeper understanding of your unique experience—mind, body, and spirit—so you can accept your true self and finally be present in your life.
